Final Video

Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

The combination of our main product and ancillary texts are effective because there is a consistent theme of leopard print throughout and this links all of our products together. In our video, the female actress is the main focus throughout and we have reflected this in our ancillary texts by using images of the main actress, which we took during a photo shoot. As the leopard print scenes are regularly shown throughout our video we decided to carry this theme on to our ancillary texts as we thought that it would be effective as it is easily recognisable and links it together well.
We decided to use both the usual leopard print pattern and the pink leopard print pattern in order to make our product more exciting whilst still linking in with our theme. This makes our ancillary products more exciting because there is more of a variety as opposed to just using one colour, this shows both sides of the characters personality which is something which we have tried to convey throughout the video itself. We decided that the original leopard pattern would be used to convey her more animal, cannibalistic personality and the pink leopard print for her calmer, sweeter personality, not only this but it also makes the ancillary texts more attractive to look at as there is a wider variety of colours and this makes it more appealing to people and makes it stand out more.
We consistently used the same fonts whilst creating our ancillary products and chose them accordingly. For the title of the song 'cannibal' we chose a font called 'Werewolf' which illustrates the title as it looks like claw marks. Overall the combination of the ancillary texts and the main product are effective as they have a consistent theme throughout each product which makes them all interlink.

Video Draft

This is one of the final edits of our video. Although this video could be submitted there are still parts of it which needs to be improved in order to boost our grade. We will come back and change these at a later date to make our video stronger and flow better.

Second digipak photoshoot

For the second photoshoot for our digipak we decided to get the main character to stand in front of a projector and we projected the leopard print over her to make it seem as if she had leopard print skin. We preferred this to our original photoshoot images as it looks more professional.
We decided to use both the pink and normal coloured leopard print to show two different sides to her, the pink leopard print portrays her as being innocent and sweet and the normal coloured leopard print shows her animalistic instinct and cannibal side. We decided to use this idea as a leopard is very graceful and pretty until it pounces on its victim or prey.
For our digipak images we used both of these backgrounds to show the contrast between her personalities, how the cannibal is her alter ego and we intend to show this throughout the video too. As a group we decided on three images for our digipak:

We didn't really need to edit these photos as we had already put the leopard print projection over her, however in the first image which will be the front cover we edited out her pupils so that it looked like she was wearing fully white contacts to make it more scary. The second image which will be the back cover of the digipak shows Emily looking quite sweet and innocent. This links to what I said earlier about her having two personalities. The final image is the one which we will use for the poster, we used the pink background but put her in quite a vicious pose so that it shows both of her sides in the advertisement. We have also decided that in our video we will film some scenes up against the leopard background so that the digipak and advert ties into our video.

Rough cut 1

We decided to film this scene first because we realised that it would be the easiest as we only needed one character who was in our lessons and we also wanted to use the studio at college. We filmed this indoors as the majority of the video is going to be filmed outside and we thought that we needed a variety of different locations. From this scene we wanted to show the characters dominating, sexy side and we also wanted it to seem as if she was teasing her victims. We chose the revealing costume to help this and also to support the male gaze theory. To get this we filmed the same verse multiple times from different angles and cut parts of different shots for each scene so that it seems that she is moving quickly about, like an animal.

Photoshoot for digipak

The title of the song is 'cannibal' and whilst we were deciding on the shots for our video we thought about animals, so for the photoshoot for the digipak we decided to link in an animal theme. We decided to use leopard print eyeshadow for this and we did this by looking at a makeup tutorial on youtube. We decided to focus on mainly the eyes and we took a few shots however most of them were out of focus or too dark/light. We decided to do another photoshoot for our digipak to make sure that we got some better images, but we test edited one of them

ORIGINAL

EDIT

for the edited photo we photoshopped the background to make it brighter so that Emily stood out more and we also added eyeliner to make her makeuo more dramatic. We made the whites of her eyes extremely bright and changed the colour of her eyes to red and we believed this showed she was 'cannibal' as red has the semantic field of blood.

Test Footage

After beginning to film the first part of our video we decided that we would film this part of the video again as we forgot to include the fake blood. This is an important part of our full video as the title of the song is 'cannibal' and the fake blood implies this so we decided that we would not be able to use this footage in our final video. This video shows the positioning and movements of the characters that we want to use when we film this part again so therefore this will help us when we film next time as both of the actors will know what to do and we wont have to waste time trying to work it out

Fonts

This is a moodboard showing possible fonts that we may consider using on the branding and digipak of our three products.
Out of all the fonts the two that I think would be most appropriate are Werewolf and vtks animal 2. I think that both of these fonts would look good on our digipak and the branding of our products, however the werewolf font is my favourite and i think that this would look good as it looks like claw marks, which mirrors the end of our video.
